Reducing access to shelter for our unhoused community is inhumane and unjust. Elected officials should never reduce access without first providing better and larger facilities to replace them. Social workers provide better responses to crises than law enforcement officers in many circumstances. Civilian Review Boards are an important part of building trust and understanding between the community and law enforcement. All municipalities should adopt a Civilian Review Board consisting of one seat for every ten thousand residents or ten seats, whichever is greater. Local and state governments should support the transformation of landscaping into one that is focused on plant life native to Utah and minimal water usage. Local and state governments should support the adoption of technologies that will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels such as solar panels, energy efficient appliances and renovation projects aimed to increase energy efficiency. Those participating in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement are using their first amendment rights to free speech and assembly. I will take issue with anyone claiming otherwise. Taxes on food are a tax on the poor. Eminent Domain too often is used at the expense of the poor. It should not be used unless the benefit to the community at large is guaranteed and the affected residents are compensated well above market rate. Multi-state property management groups are inflating real estate values and hurting the affordability in housing in Utah. A brighter future is achievable for us all if the wealthy paid their fair share. Education should never be censored. We should not be afraid to be frank about the past and reflect honestly on our future. Public education should be freely available to all at every level. Education should never be for-profit. Employees everywhere should be able to enjoy a four-day workweek. Should I succeed in my campaign, I will work to allow a four-day workweek for public employees in my jurisdiction. Workers have a right to organize within their workplace. Retaliation in any form is unacceptable. Utah should end its status as a Right to Work state. The Utah Inland Port was agreed to against the wishes of the communities that will play host to the project. It will negatively impact residents and should be stopped. Healthcare is a human right. A universal healthcare plan is the only way to guarantee that right for all. Migrants regardless of documentation build culture, innovation and understanding in our communities.
