Working Groups and Committees

Working Groups and Committees are sub-bodies of the chapter where you can get involved! While you are encouraged to attend both Working Group and Committee meetings, only general membership can vote on decisions in Working Groups. Committees are closed bodies, where only those voted onto the committee can vote on decisions being made there, as committees handle things like sensitive and private information. Due to this distinction, committees also tend to be much more administrative in nature. Feel free to explore what our Working Groups and Committees are up to!

Priority Working Groups

Our current Chapter Priorities are Migrant Rights and the Senate District 13 Electoral Campaign. These each have separate pages where you can learn more about them and how to get involved.

Working Groups

Migrant Rights

Migrant Rights are and continue to be forefront in our current political climate. The Working Group is moving forward with various projects to help defend the human dignity of our migrant comrades. Learn more on the main page.

Political Development

Come join others in growing your knowledge of socialism. We host a regular Socialist Night School that is public facing and has short readings. We also run a book club, 4th R, which is more member oriented and focused on whole book discussions.

Electoral

Our electoral working group is currently running a campaign to elect Taylor Paden to the Senate District 13 seat in Utah Senate. We will continue to move forward with electoral campaigns and education in the future. Check out our main page to learn more and get involved.

Mutual Aid

Mutual aid is a voluntary, reciprocal exchange of resources and services for community support, build on solidarity rather than charity. We run things like a Library of Everything, where we can share resources, and have done free brake light clinics in the past.

Committees

Steering

This is the general administrative body of the organization, elected by membership. They ensure work is moving forward, make urgent decisions between general meetings, and speak for the organization publicly.

Membership Engagement

We run things like socials for the membership, DSA 101s, and other “engagement” activities like phonebanking and one on one meetings. If you’re looking to help our membership get involved and build friendship, join us!

Socialist Sprouts

Children are the future and should be centered in our planning and organizing. We ensure that general meetings are accessible to parents and that the chapter is prioritizing a feminist and caregiver lens.

Communications

Communications helps run things like our social media accounts, builds out flyers and other literature, publishes blog posts, and generally creates artwork for the chapter. Into visuals and communications? We’d love to have you!

Tech

We help manage all the background technology for the chapter and ensure all member data is secure and being used properly. We’ve worked on implementing secure software and tech practices, and continue to evaluate in the ever changing tech sector.

Nominations

While not a continuously meeting committee, nominations will handle the general elections for the chapter. This includes opening up nominations, managing ballots, and ensuring a safe and fair election.
